Revision

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

I plan to reread my essay and make the nesscary changes so that my essay can be at least an A level paper. A lot of the things wrong with my paper, were just things that if I reread my paper I could probably get rid of most of my mistakes. Also when I recieve my rough draft back I will fix all the grammatical and organization problems with my essay.

Criterion

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Once I stopped and thought about it I used criterion to decide where to go to college. I used criterion such as size, admissions standards, location and varitey of majors. I then compared what I wanted to what was out their and how each school stood against each critera. Once I got rid of all the schools that failed each critera then I ended up with the final couple which I applied to, then the critera became whichever one accepted me. This relates to the use of criterion in essay 1, becasue I have to choose certain criterion and apply them to the articles that we are writing our essays on.

Article Summary

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

I read the article “Harry Potter and the Technology of Magic”, by Elizabeth Teare. This is an academic article, in which Teare’s thesis is, “I will argue that the stories the books tell, as well as the stories we’re telling about them, enact both our fantasies and our fears of children’s literature and publishing in the context of twenty-first-century commercial and technological culture” (802). Her main points are that Harry Potter is a world of non-commodity culture; how to hook younger readers, how it beat it’s competitors, and its popularity.

Expectations

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

In this class I expect to learn to improve my writing and make it more efficient. I also want my grammar to improve so when I revise my papers that I don’t have as much work to do. I believe in English 111, I improved my critical thinking skills and the flow of my essays. The thing that I would like to be successful in is to make my essays more powerful and have a more direct and harder hitting subjects. I would like to work on the essay flow and my grammar and spelling. I tend to jump from one subject to another and I need to work on transitions making connections from one subject to another. On a small level I need to work on my grammar and reading my essays and revising them to make sure they make sense. I have a tendency to leave out words or use the wrong ones and then the meaning of my words are lost. In an instructor I expect you to help give me the tools I need to help me improve my writing, not just give me instruction and hope that I can do it by myself. That you offer as much help as you can throughout the writing process and give me insightful input when asked and sometimes when not asked. Constructive criticism is always helpful in one way or another, so I always accept it. Overall I hope that at the end of this semester my writing improves, if not significantly then at least a little, because everything you do can always improve.
